Capturing Hope: Mindful Photography at Homerton Hospital
We’ve partnered with Homerton Hospital in East London for a Mindful Photography workshop.
Collaborating with Shaun Caton from the RNRU (Regional Neurological Rehabilitation Unit) and Amy, we’ve empowered brain injury patients, some with limited mobility or who couldn’t speak, through photography and collage art.
Despite challenges, we’ve created beautiful collages, offering hope to all participants. Stay tuned for a hospital exhibition featuring their works in early 2024.

International Women Day
Women by Women
A photography workshop by Sylvie Belbouab & Mindful Photo Lab that champions gender equality & celebrates International Women’s Day.
At Mindful Photo Lab, we recently collaborated with Kairos residents in an eight-week series of Mindful Photography workshops.
Led by our founder, Pierre Bureau, each two-hour session integrated meditation and mindfulness with the exploration of photography skills.
Throughout the workshops, participants delved into various techniques, from black-and-white framing exploration to capturing colorful reflections and crafting collages. Armed with only smartphones, fifteen individuals ventured into Nunhead Cemetery, Peckham High Street, and other iconic landmarks like Southwark Cathedral and the Tate Modern, all within Kairos’ local community.
Culminating in a group-curated exhibition, the workshops showcased the participants’ quality, creativity, and diverse perspectives. The event celebrated the strong sense of community and enjoyment that defined our sessions, with participants describing their experiences as ‘connecting’, ‘grounding’, and ‘inspiring’.
"I had been very isolated during the pandemic working from home. The mindful photography workshop helped me to get out and participate for the first time for two and a half years and to start talking to people again. It is the best thing I have ever done for my mental health - looking outwards and having an external focus really has helped me to reset and to feel much more positive and excited about the future. Pierre's courses should be available on the NHS!.”

OUR STORY
Before falling in love with photography, Pierre worked in an ancient manor in Cornwall as a hotel manager.
During the winter he would travel to India, learning meditation, drinking chai in clay pots, and listening to Bollywood classics. During one of his trips, he suffered from severe mental health problems.
A a consequence, he bought a camera to entice himself out of his room where he felt trapped. Taking photographs became a way to escape from his condition and has lead him on a path of mindfulness, allowing him to reconnect with reality and stay in the present moment.
