1839. <\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Although women have been very active since the beginning alongside the pioneers, often printing for their husbands, and taking photographs themselves, their contribution has being overlooked for too long.<\/span><\/p><h6><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">*<\/span><b>The Daguerreotype <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(1839) is the work outside the confines of a studio. It was a small camera with fast shutter speeds and good quality lenses allowing street photographers to shoot high-quality candid shots.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In Paris, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ilse Bing<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> used the Leica to create <\/span><b>surrealist<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">* images while <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Marianne Breslauer<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> captured fleeting moments off the streets, in parks, and along the Seine.<\/span><\/p><h6><b>*Surrealism<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was an artistic, philosophical, and literary movement which developed in Europe after the first world war. camera.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Whereas the earliest women street photographers were primarily Western and often had to defy social norms, the digital camera revolution made photography more affordable and accessible in almost every country.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Despite this continuing increase in women around the world picking up a camera, women still remain under-represented in photography, especially in Africa and Asia.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In Ethiopia for example, buying a new camera costs more than double the price than in the U.K because of government taxes, and second-hand cameras remain very expensive as the demand exceeds the supply.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div I wanted to take photos through the window of this restaurant of employees wearing face masks, as that was fairly uncommon at the time.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This woman, a customer, was waiting for her order, leaning against a counter by the window with her back to me. She turned to look at me. I thought her gaze was so interesting through the rain droplets on the window. She gave me a little smile. She didn\u2019t appear to be hesitant or uncomfortable, and did not duck away. She didn\u2019t appear to be stressed by the pandemic situation or the bad weather.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That\u2019s part of the street photography process. I waited for the train and I begin to take photos immediately, I can see the woman next to me and how she looks so out of place for some reason.
