FACE TO FACE AND ONLINE MINDFUL PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOPS TO IMPROVE WELL-BEING

Workshops for the Workspace

At Mindful Photo Lab we facilitate creative workshops to train people changing the way they perceive the world to find creative solutions to everyday problems.

The way we achieve that is by combining ancient wisdom such as the mindfulness of breathing and playful photography assignments to challenge our automatic settings in a playful way.

By the end of the 4 hours workshop, participants will have learned invaluable skills enabling them to think out of the box while improving their wellbeing.

'FAMILY MINDFUL PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOPS'

8-WEEK MINDFUL PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP FOR PARENTS AND THEIR CHILDREN (4-13 years old)

Family Mindful Photography Workshop is an inclusive photography project to enable parents and their children (4-13 years old) with little or no experience of photography to start their own artistic practice while building their confidence.

Using the participants’ own cameras (this includes a smartphone camera), this project aims to introduce children to the art of photography.

Each session will start with an introduction to the photo adventure of the week, and a review of the previous weeks’ photos allowing each child to talk about their experiences. The sessions will be designed to incrementally build skills and confidence for both child and adult whilst having fun.

A SELECTION OF OUR PAST MINDFUL PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOPS

UNIVERSITY OF SUSSEX & WEN

This mindful photography workshop was part of a research project called A Feast for the eyes: Using photography to explore peoples’ understandings of and relationships with food, by the University of Sussex in collaboration with professor Elaine Swan, WEN and facilitated by Pierre Bureau.

The project aimed to understand more about peoples’ understanding of food within their local communities.

A Feast for the eyes project is also part of a larger research project funded by UK Research and InnovationThe purpose of the larger project is to work with communities to understand and improve the food system in the UK.

“I really enjoyed this workshop as it took me out from my usual bubble and style.

Most importantly, I met lovely people and discovered a new passion for taking pictures of the little things in life and appreciating them as this mindful photography course was during  lockdown.

This was a lovely experience and I really loved it!”

– Sumayah, London

“Firstly, I would like to thank you for your time and dedication. I really enjoyed attending the weekly sessions and learned so much over the course.

It helped me to build skills and it was great opportunity to engage with local community and traders in Bethnal Green and Roman Road.

We had a wonderful group of diverse individuals. I would highly recommend this course to anyone who is interested in photography and mindfulness.”

“One of the many aspects I loved about this photography course was the fact that each assignment made you think….. you had to think about the topics, get in tune with the subject, and experiment with light.

Most importantly we all got to tell the story about ourselves – be it through nostalgia and the people and things you love and miss, through to capturing images of hope – with light at the end of the tunnel through to capturing familiar surroundings in the home from a completely different perspective – a hugely enriching journey.” – Andrea

“I joined this mindful photography workshop not really knowing what to expect, and I found it one of the most positive and creative aspects of ‘lockdown’.

I loved Pierre’s thoughtful weekly assignments which encouraged me to look differently at the world around me when I was at the height of feeling fed up with everything going on.

It was lovely to have a group of like-minded people to share photos and ideas with, and Pierre’s feedback each week helped me approach photography much more as an art form.

The swap to digital meetings seemed to work well – for me especially, as I likely wouldn’t have been able to attend an in-person course because of work.

I look forward to meeting in real life and seeing everyone’s work on display one day in the future.

Thank you, Pierre!” – Emma, London

“Pierre’s mindful photography workshop granted me a creative outlet during the onset of precarious times. His video for each week’s challenge was endearing, as well as seeing all the photos that manifested. I enjoyed viewing these new sceneries, taking me on a mundane adventure each week across the seas.

The experience was rooted in community. Everyone, unique in identity, lens and interpretation, had a platform to share and engage with each other’s creations. It was inspiring to be apart of, a form of mutual aid through art.

Thank you Pierre for this experience.” – Luna, USA

“Thank you so much for your kind encouragement and for tailoring your teaching style to bring me out of my shell. You should be very proud of the way that you teach 🙂

I am now enthusiastic about taking photos and I will continue but now with a new sense of joy.

In these socially distanced times it would have been easy to have postponed the workshop until we can do it in person. Instead you took it online and incredibly made it work seamlessly.

I love the discussions we had each week, it made me passionate about the topic and help me to learn from others.

Keep doing what you’re doing!

Thank you ever so much” – Avni, London

“Pierre has an infectious enthusiasm but also a very clear idea of what he wants to achieve as a teacher. While expert in photography, Pierre has an extraordinary ability to draw together people from all walks of life as well as inspire them to think and create for themselves.

We had an extremely varied group, but they all responded to Pierre’s work requests, which were thoughtful and interesting.

The sessions were well structured, with each one based on a simple and easy to understand topic, whether it was photography in black and white, shadows, complimentary colours or light, I felt I was learning something new!

Thanks again for the enthusiasm and the expert guidance! – Richard, London

“The online mindful photography workshop during lockdown has been one of the most inspiring, motivating and positive things I have done.

Pierre has been such a wonderful source of inspiration, and sharing pictures with other participants has been very interesting in the way it widened my perspective on what you can do and how you can do it.

I would definitely recommend the workshop to anyone who is curious enough to take a closer and more imaginative look at his/her surroundings.” – Vittoria, Paris

Pierre teaches in a kind and encouraging way. I am so grateful to him for changing the way I see and appreciate the world. I have a better understanding of light, shadow, reflection, and contrast.

The world around me has become more beautiful” – Felicity, London
